Microsoft web technologies power new online TV lifestyle and entertainment network, t5m.com

Silverlight™, ASP.NET and Visual Studio® 2008 drive the development of an innovative new web destination

December 3 2007 – Microsoft’s latest web technologies are set to power t5m.com, a new online video-based lifestyle and entertainment network launching in December, where celebrities and accomplished individuals provide the original content.

t5m.com has been built using Microsoft’s Silverlight technology, with Microsoft’s suite of developer tools and platform including Visual Studio Team System and Expression, also behind its development.

Mark Taylor, Director of DPE at Microsoft UK commented: “Microsoft is committed to enabling the delivery of innovative media experiences and rich interactive applications to the web. t5m.com is a great example of this. Silverlight really comes into its own in this sort of environment. It allows developers and those managing content to do so efficiently, concealing the underlying technical complexity behind t5m.com from the user whilst providing a new and intuitive front-end experience of near broadcast quality. ”

Microsoft’s Silverlight technology enables the rich media experiences demanded by users while enabling developers to invoke remote services with ease. It makes t5m.com’s high quality video and dynamic Galactic Browser interface possible while Silverlight Streaming, a companion service for Silverlight enabling designers, developers and content owners to deliver cross-browser, cross-platform media experience and RIAs on the Web, will ensure quality of service and efficient use of bandwidth for t5m.com users from launch.

Microsoft Consulting Services (MCS) was instrumental in architecting and developing t5m.com which will feature high quality video interviews, event specials, editorial features and creative content around global personalities, their life experiences, passions and the charitable causes they support. At launch exclusive interviews and content from a number of high profile personalities will be available on t5m.com. With seven core channels: Biography, Entertainment, Fashion, Health, Lifestyle, ‘What’s Hot’, and Causes, t5m,com will also feature a dedicated channel for each personality and the charity they support.

Charlie Muirhead, t5m.com’s CEO said: “As we had the task of developing a site from the ground up, we built our experience and model with best of breed tools and technologies. We needed a compelling, easy to use video-centric interface, so we turned to Microsoft. We needed to be flexible about bandwidth and prepare to offer a predictably high quality service to a large audience, so we also took advantage of Silverlight Streaming.”

“Timing is everything on the web, and we had to get to market fast. We’ve been amazed at how using Visual Studio with its advanced collaboration features has allowed our developers to get our site ready so quickly and smoothly. This means we can focus on creating content and attracting an audience instead of worrying about the development.”

Adobe Delivers Flash Player 9 with H.264 Video Support

HD Quality Web Video and Audio Now Available With Adobe Flash Player Update

London- Dec. 4, 2007 - Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) today announced the immediate availability of Adobe® Flash® Player 9 Update 3 software, previously code named Moviestar. Adobe Flash Player 9 now includes H.264 standard video support, the same standard deployed in Blu-Ray® and HD-DVD® high definition video players, and High Efficiency AAC (HE-AAC) audio capabilities. The latest update also features hardware accelerated, multi-core enhanced, full-screen video playback for high-resolution viewing across major operating systems and browsers. The combination of Adobe Flash Player 9 and Adobe Flash Media Server 3 (also announced today) enables the delivery of HD quality video to the broadest online audience. Adobe Flash Player 9 Update 3 is available immediately at www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer.

H.264 support is an encoding option in Adobe Premiere® Pro and Adobe After Effects® software and is now integrated across the Adobe Flash family of products. Support extends to applications developed for Adobe AIR(tm) software, a cross-operating system application runtime that enables developers to use their existing skills to build and deploy rich Internet applications (RIAs) to the desktop. Expected to be available in early 2008, Adobe Media Player, the first application from Adobe built on Adobe AIR, will leverage both H.264 video and HE-AAC audio support. Adobe Media Player takes Flash streaming video experiences outside the Web browser delivering more viewing options, such as watching videos anytime, anywhere.

“FOXnews.com features an extensive and continuously updated video library of breaking news, high-profile interviews and compelling segments from news programs throughout the day,” said Jeff Misenti, vice president and general manager, FOX News Digital. “Collaborating with Adobe allows us to enhance the viewer experience and meet the growing demand for Web video in high-definition.”

Redefining the Video Viewing Experience
Adobe Flash Player content reaches over 99 percent of Internet-enabled desktops, as well as hundreds of millions of mobile and set-top devices, enabling organisations and individuals to build and deliver rich Web video experiences that work consistently across multiple platforms. Leveraging Adobe’s Emmy® Award winning Flash architecture, Adobe Flash Player can be used to view both live and on-demand media or entertainment on sites such as CBS, NBC, FoxNews Digital, PBS, MTV Networks, BBC and Hulu. The technology also powers the video capabilities of popular social networking sites including YouTube and MySpace. With H.264 and HE-AAC support in Adobe Flash Player 9 and Adobe Flash Media Server 3, content providers can now deliver HDTV-quality streaming video on the Web.

“Hulu is committed to giving consumers the best online video viewing experience possible and we are always seeking innovative, new technologies that help us deliver,” said Eric Feng, chief technology officer at Hulu. “Together with Adobe, we will provide a best-in-class, high definition video experience.”

“Adobe Flash technology has been a major force behind Internet TV as we know it, bringing viewers instant-on, engaging experiences,” said Kevin Lynch, senior vice president and chief software architect for Adobe. “The inclusion of industry standard H.264 support in Adobe Flash Player, Adobe AIR, the Adobe Creative Suite® product line and Adobe Flash Media Server 3 brings new HD capabilities to millions of Flash developers and a new generation of viewers who are turning to the Web as the place to find their favorite shows and video content.”

Easy Deployment for Content Partners
Since H.264 and HE-AAC are open industry standards and already integrated into existing authoring and publishing workflows, content producers can leverage their existing H.264 material and seamlessly play back the native content in Adobe Flash Player. This enables publishers to encode content once and then distribute it to multiple mediums, resulting in the potential for reduced costs and time savings.

Pricing and Availability
Adobe Flash Player 9 is immediately available as a free download for Windows, Macintosh and Linux platforms from www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer. To learn more about Adobe Flash Player 9, please visit www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/.

Launch of Immediacy WCMs 6.0

Mediasurface’s web content management product, called Immediacy aimed at mid-sized companies, is launching a new, highly improved Immediacy WCMs 6.0 version.

The new version stands out in the web content management space because of being very easy to use for non-techies such as Marketers who want to improve their Web Marketing. It also has a strong set of features needed for a modern website which can hold its grounds in the Web 2.0 space.

New features are:

Extended Web 2.0 functionality allows easy creation of ‘My Pages’, profiles and blogs that help to deliver the content, context and connections for social interaction. Immediacy WCMs 6.0 creates a platform for community-driven tags (folksonomies) and business taxonomies to co-exist.

The new Immediacy SharePoint Connector is designed to allow non-technical users to publish accessibility compliant content directly from SharePoint.

Improved Search Engine Optimisation generates the XHTML-validated code that search engines such as Google prefer.

Taxonomy and Categorisation Manager employs sophisticated algorithms to extract keywords, key phrases and a summarised description from any web page or document, then automatically categorise it against a taxonomy or folksonomy. This improves the quality and relevance of search results and makes it easy for users to edit and extract, rather than originate, this information.
