Today Sony announce the launch of the ultimate HD workstation – VAIO RM1N.
Featuring revolutionary split design for the perfect setup, the VAIO RM1N includes high performance full HD editing capability and Blu-ray Disc for HD content export. Combing avant-garde design, next-generation technology and outstanding software the VAIO RM1N provides professional level capabilities to businesses and consumers alike.
The Sony VAIO RM1N Ultimate HD Workstation
As HD emerges as the new video standard, Sony is developing products that drive the pace of change. Every aspect of the HD world is included, from the HD Handycam® and HD ‘BRAVIA’ televisions to the sophisticated HD editing capabilities of select VAIO notebooks and PCs. The VAIO VGC-RM1N desktop combines avant-garde design, next-generation technology and outstanding software to provide professional-level HD editing capabilities to businesses and consumers alike.
In a radical departure from the norms of desktop design, the RM1N’s system unit comes in two parts. The primary chassis holds the motherboard and major components, while the secondary unit houses the optical drives. This gives users huge flexibility in the way they set the machine up. For example the optical unit can be placed under the monitor for easy access, while the system unit is stood off to one side. Both units can stand vertically as well as horizontally, so there are lots of possibilities. Whichever you choose, the end result will always be a setup that suits the way you like to work.
The RM1N has been designed to be the pinnacle of the HD world, utilising the highest quality components from leading technology partners such as Intel, nVIDIA, and Adobe®. And with Windows Vista™ Business, the RM1N will meet all your business needs.
Continuing the ergonomic focus, the VAIO RM1N is supplied with a specially designed video editing Jog controller which is fully compatible with the pre-installed copy of Adobe® Premiere® Pro 2.0. This puts the full power of one of the most sophisticated native HD video editing packages available literally right at your fingertips.
In addition to outstanding video editing software, the Sony VAIO RM1N is supplied with all you need for handling HD content. WinDVD BD for VAIO lets you watch HD-format movies, and full HDCP support means you can enjoy the latest Blu-ray High Definition Hollywood releases. Click To BD provides simple but powerful tools for burning your HD content onto Blu-ray Disc for export or archiving.
In order to give the VAIO RM1N the power it needs to tackle the demanding work of HD video editing it has the very latest Intel® Core™ 2 Quad processor. With four processor cores and 8MB of shared L2 cache, this represents the state-of-the-art CPU for professional-grade multimedia applications. There’s a similarly impressive amount of storage on offer too, with a twin disk Serial ATA RAID 0 array totalling 1 terabyte (1000GB).
Of course the choice of graphics card is vital for a system like this, which is why VAIO selected the NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600 GTS. From video manipulation to high-end gaming, with full DirectX 10 support, superlative 3D effects and tremendous performance backed by 256MB of GDDR3 video memory, this is a GPU that delivers exactly what is required.
Unlike many desktops, the Sony VAIO RM1N is truly expandable. The system unit has room for an additional four SATA hard disks, and there are three open PCI-Express slots capable of taking full-length cards. So you are free to upgrade and develop the machine in whatever way you like. Equally generous provision is made for Integrating with peripherals and cameras in the form of 10 USB 2.0 connectors and three i-LINK ports front-mounted for convenient access.
“The VAIO RM1N will exert a unique appeal for those needing serious HD editing capability,” says Chris Trewhitt, Product Manager for VAIO Digital Home products at Sony UK. “It has quad-core processing power, professional software pre-installed, a specialised Jog controller for speeding up editing, and it has Blu-ray Disc™. So once you’re done you can record 50GB of high-definition video on a single-sided disc. That is an indispensable feature for an HD workstation.”
